Sungrow and Industry-Wide Price Increases in Solar Inverters and Storage Products

Sungrow has announced a second price increase in 2026 for its solar inverters and energy storage products, with rises ranging from 5% to 15% effective September 20. This adjustment reflects broader cost pressures in China’s inverter and storage supply chains, driven by rising raw material prices and component shortages. Other industry players have also raised prices amid similar challenges.

Sungrow's Price Increase Details

Sungrow will raise prices for solar inverters and energy storage products by 5% to 15% starting September 20, 2026. This is the company's second price adjustment this year. Specific increases include 5% to 10% for string, modular, and matrix inverters, 10% to 15% for medium-voltage grid-connected inverters, 5% to 10% for energy storage power conversion systems (PCS), and 10% to 15% for integrated PCS units. Utility-scale and commercial storage systems will see increases of 5% to 10%.

Orders placed before September 20 will remain under existing contract terms, while those placed on or after this date will follow the new pricing.

Drivers of Price Increases

Sungrow cited rising raw material and component costs as the main reason for the price hikes, despite efforts to secure long-term supplies and optimize procurement. A company manager highlighted higher copper and aluminum prices as key factors, alongside a strategic intent to reduce destructive low-price competition.

Data from the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association showed domestic copper and aluminum prices rose by 31.8% in the first half of 2026. Silver prices increased even more sharply. Additionally, power electronics suppliers reported higher costs and tighter availability for components such as printed circuit boards, insulated-gate bipolar transistors, and memory chips, partly due to increased demand from AI data centers and computing infrastructure.

Industry-Wide Price Trends and Policy Impact

Other inverter and storage manufacturers, including Ginlong Technologies, Sineng, Sinexcel, and Inovance, have also raised prices by 5% to 30% since early 2026. The China Energy Storage Alliance reported over 10 storage-related suppliers increased prices between 2% and 30% since July.

Additionally, China introduced a 2% consumption tax on lithium-ion batteries in September 2026, scheduled to rise to 4% later, adding further cost pressure on battery prices.

While list-price increases are significant, actual transaction prices may vary, especially in large-scale tenders. The persistence of these increases will depend on raw material prices, component availability, and competitive bidding conditions.
