European PPA prices rise as solar and storage contracting stays active

European PPA prices rose 2.3% in July while contracting remained active across solar and battery storage. The mix of price divergence and new BESS contract structures matters for project timing, risk allocation and equipment routes.

What changed

Pexapark’s July index showed the European PPA composite rising 2.3% to €45/MWh. Great Britain and Italy moved higher, while the Nordics, Spain and Portugal declined. The same month saw 24 publicly announced European PPAs representing about 1.1 GW of contracted capacity.

Storage is becoming a contract question

Nine battery agreements represented roughly 865 MW and 3.1 GWh of disclosed capacity. Tolling, revenue swaps and merchant optimisation structures are appearing alongside more familiar offtake models. That points to a market where the commercial route for a project depends increasingly on how flexibility and revenue risk are allocated.

What it means for SolTraCo

For equipment owners, developers and buyers, this is a signal to qualify the whole execution route rather than look only at headline capacity. Module availability, inverter compatibility, storage integration, documentation, delivery timing and grid assumptions need to be checked together. Projects with a credible route to construction or repowering are more useful counterparties than undifferentiated demand.

The practical watchpoints

The next useful signals are country-level PPA movement, storage revenue structures and the equipment requirements behind projects that can actually reach delivery. These factors can change which surplus, replacement or project-stock opportunities are commercially actionable in Europe.
